T: Nika, how did the story of Shakriani Estate begin?
Winemaking in our family now spans three generations. Our vineyards are planted in the village of Shakriani, on the slopes of the Caucasus, where the soil and microclimate create truly exceptional conditions. For us, winemaking is more than just a business - it is an organic part of our everyday life.
T: You studied viticulture and winemaking in France. How did that experience change your perspective?
My time in France taught me something very important - how to apply modern approaches while still respecting tradition. That experience helped me look at the vineyard and the wine in a more systematic, detail-oriented, and long-term way, which ultimately reflects in the identity of Shakriani Estate.

T: What role do terroir and the qvevri play in your wines?
We age our wine in qvevri, but its character comes first and foremost from the terroir of Shakriani - the soil, the microclimate, and the care of the vineyard determine the final result. In addition, we use French oak barrel aging, and we will soon be introducing a white wine made using the classical method.
The traditional qvevri method, precise vineyard management, and modern technology together create the distinctive result that you ultimately feel in the glass.
T: In what direction is Shakriani Estate developing today?
We are already actively working on exports to Germany, Montenegro, Lithuania, and Romania. Negotiations are also underway to add new markets. We plan to expand the vineyards and grow our production capacity, and in parallel, we carry out small-scale experiments each year - limited-edition series that may in the future evolve into broader, larger-scale projects.
T: What is your main goal as a young winemaker?
My goal is to strengthen the family winery further, preserve our traditions, and introduce Georgian wine to a wider international audience. My great wish is for Shakriani Estate to stand as an example of harmony between local terroir and modern technology - offering wine lovers a truly special experience.
